How to Get Started
- Students with disabilities who require accommodations should seek assistance at the Disability Resource Center (DRC) Office, Reid Hall 0020 at (352) 392-8565 x200.
- Documentation (see documentation requirement links below) should be brought to your appointment. It must be on letterhead, dated, have a diagnosis, and should list recommendations for accommodations.
- Students are encouraged to request support services as early as possible. Accommodation letters are only valid for one semester.
- Intake appointment
- DRC staff member will review documentation
- Determination of what accommodations will be provided
- DRC staff member will share self-advocacy information and strategies
- Provisional status will need to have required documentation in 30 days
- DRC will file official documentation including information about the manifestations of the disability. DRC will ensure that disability-related documents are kept confidential and are shared with college personnel on a limited and need to know basis only. Disability documentation will not be released to a third party under any circumstance.
- Request Accommodation Letters (AL), which are the student’s way of communicating their individual needs to their instructors. Procedure to request ALs:
- Pick up from the DRC desk or download the Accommodated Letter Request Form or use on-line form from Online Services.
- Complete form with instructor's names and course numbers.
- Return form to the DRC desk.
- Pick up letters and personally deliver it to each faculty member during his or her office hours.
- This must be done each semester, as accommodation memos are only good for one semester.
