Volunteer
- Practicum and Internship Graduate Students
The Disability Resource Center has positions available for graduate students looking to apply their educational backgrounds and receive practical experience while working with students with disabilities. Interested students will learn various aspects of the Disability Resource Center from office duties to providing accommodations. These positions are generally between 10 to 20 hours per week and are coordinated through your college or degree program. The amount of credit hours awarded to the student depends on your program of study. - Other Volunteer Services available through the Disability Resource Center
Those students that are interested in volunteering their services should periodically check with the Disability Resource Center for other opportunities.
Employment
- Educational Assistant
Provides aid to current students in classroom settings. Assistance may also be required with academic related activities. Tasks of the educational assistant could include laboratory assistant (pouring/mixing beaker contents as directed), library assistant (retrieving text material from narrow enclosed areas), and typing oral transliteration. - Testing Proctor
Testing Proctors are integral members of the exam process. This is a part-time position with variable hours. During peak exam times a proctor may work as many as 20 hours per week, while some weeks no hours may be worked. The duties consist of proctoring, reading, scribing, returning exams, and other duties. - Notetaker
The notetaker position is an integral element for the academic success of students with disabilities. The faculty will announce in class the need for a notetaker and give interested students additional information. It is the responsibility of the notetaker to supply neat and accurate notes in the assigned subject. This includes material from class lectures, films, etc. Notes should be given to student immediately after each class or within 24 hours of each class. Note taking can be done by using carbon paper (available at the DRC) or copy machine (available for use at the DRC). - Office Student Assistants
The student assistant position is up to 20 hours per week. This person will assist the Disability Resource Center staff in a number of areas. General office skills are helpful. Some of the duties include: filing, labeling, answering the phone, assisting other students, delivering, scheduling appointments, etc. The student assistant must be courteous and act professional at all times.
