The Dean of Students Office is one of seven departments in the Division of Student Affairs that strives to prepare students to assume roles of leadership, involvement and service as productive citizens in a culturally diverse, technologically sophisticated and increasingly complex society.
Position Description
The Assistant Director of Multicultural and Diversity Affairs and Director of the Institute for Hispanic/Latino Culture (IHLC) within the Dean of Students Office provides leadership to a dynamic area that serves students through programming, services and advocacy. The IHLC educates the wider community about the culture, heritage and diversity of Hispanic/Latino Cultures while also serving as a “home away from home” for Hispanic/Latino students and over forty Hispanic/Latino student organizations and promoting multicultural awareness through collaboration with the other service areas within Multicultural and Diversity Affairs (MCDA). The Director will act as a student advocate on issues, concerns, and problems related to student life and will advise various student groups. The Director is responsible for developing and implementing programs, activities and services of the IHLC and MCDA including retention initiatives, scholarships programs, mentoring, and a state-wide leadership conference. The director directly supervises a full-time secretary, graduate assistant, student assistants and volunteers. In addition, the Director is responsible for overall coordination of IHLC facilities, development of alumni and other support, and the establishment of liaison relationships with various offices and departments. The Director serves on university, division and departmental committees and interprets University policy to students, student groups, faculty, staff, parents and the general public.
Qualifications
Position requires a master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, or related field. Qualified applicants should have a minimum of two years professional experience in student affairs with significant experience in supervising and directing program or service area. Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience working with Hispanic/Latino students and/or multicultural and diversity affairs preferred.
Salary & Benefits
The Salary and benefits include:
- Salary Range is $36,000 and above. Commensurate with experience.
