Filing an Appeal

All appeals must be filed in writing to the Dean of Students within 10 business days from the date of the decision letter for the purpose of scheduling an appointment. Failure to file the appeal within 10 business days of the decision letter will forfeit your right to appeal. Also, the actual appointment must be scheduled within 10 business days of filing the appeal unless otherwise approved by the reviewing authority. If the student fails to appear for the appointment, the reviewing authority will make a decision based on the written material.
Criteria for filing an appeal is limited to the following:
- a. The student's rights were violated in the hearing process;
- b. New material evidence that could not have been discovered at the time of the hearing;
- c. The evidence did not support the decision by a preponderance of the evidence; and,
- d. The sanction(s) imposed were not appropriate for the violation.
The appeals for judicial cases and decisions are heard by the Dean of Students or the Vice President for Student Affairs, depending on the origin of the case. The specific authorities are:
Dean of Students: The Dean hears all appeals for cases originating from:
- Assistant Director for Student Judicial Affairs
- Coordinator of Residential Judicial Programs
- Director for Student Judicial Affairs or Designee
Vice President for Student Affairs: The Vice President hears all appeals for cases originating from:
- College of Law Honor Committee
- Health Center Student Conduct Standards Committee
- Student Conduct Committee
- Student Honor Court
- Greek Judicial Committee
