For Parents

There are many resources through the University available for parents of University students.
Listed below are links to some helpful sites that will provide you with information that you'll need for your son or daughter.

Minority Recruitment and Retention Services Program
Student Enrichment Services Program
There are many programs at the University of Florida specifically designed to attract and retain minority students at the University, they include:

  • UF Shadow Day : This program gives high school seniors the "Gator for a day" experience when they shadow current UF students to class and around campus.
  • Hispanic-Latino Student Recruitment Conference:  This program, held each March, is for middle school and high school students (seventh through eleventh grades) and their parents. Participants are nominated by their guidance counselors.
  • Transfer Opportunity Program and Services Conference : This program helps community college students to transfer into one of UF's colleges after they earn an AA degree. The majority of participants are from Florida community colleges or one of UF's partner high schools in Jacksonville, Orlando and Miami.
  • Destination Gainesville:   This program invites students who have been admitted to UF to a reception designed to encourage them to enroll in UF's incoming freshman class. Receptions are held in 8-12 cities around Florida and the    southeastern United States.
  • Hispanic-Latino Outstanding High School Scholars Program:  This two-day program, held each July, is designed to attract top-rising Hispanic seniors to UF. Participants are nominated by their guidance counselors and they and their parents are invited to campus.

Housing-Off Campus
The Gainesville area is filled with many residential areas designed with students in mind, offering an alternative to residential hall life. U.F. has a online guide to finding an off-campus residential alternative guide, which you can find by clicking here.

Preview
Freshman Orientation, or Preview, is a chance for incoming freshmen to orient themselves with the university, as well as a chance for parents and families to become oriented as well. Go to their site for more information by clicking here.

 

Gator Dining Services
Gator Dining Services offer different meal plan options for students. There are two dining halls on campus, as well as several chain restaurants, all which can be used with a Gator 1 ID. Financial Aid
