Minority Mentors http://www.dso.ufl.edu/multicultural/ummp/
The University Minority Mentor Program (UMMP) was initiated in the fall of 1986. It was designed to address the issue of retention of African-American students at the University of Florida. The program was initially piloted in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The UMMP seeks to improve the retention rates of African-American and Hispanic first year students by personalizing their experiences in the first year. The UMMP is designed to provide a supportive and nurturing experience for the personal and intellectual development of the first-year African American and Hispanic students. To facilitate this process each mentee is paired with both professional mentors (faculty) and a peer mentor (upper division student). Joining the UMMP family today, might make all the difference tomorrow. Please contac the Affirmative Action Office at 392-6004 for more information.
