This summer, Jasmine is interning at Texas A&M in their offices of New Student and Family Programs and Residence Life. This fall, Jasmine will begin her Masters degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs at Indiana University with an assistantship in Residential Programs and Services.
Working in the DSO gave me to the opportunity to learn from students with unique backgrounds and experiences, collaborate with different offices throughout the Division of Student Affairs and connect with faculty and staff across campus. What started out as work, quickly became time spent with family that I looked forward to. I know the network of support that challenged, encouraged and guided me throughout my time at the University of Florida, will continue to do so long after graduation.

Accepted full time offer with Target Corporation as a Merchandise Planning Business Analyst at the headquarters in Minneapolis, MN starting June 24th.
Working at DSO really provided me a family away from home throughout my college experience. I felt part of a group of individuals that were truly dedicated to making our campus a better place for all students and it was a pleasure to be part of the puzzle that provided the upmost student service at the University. Lastly, I was able to make lifelong friendships that I will hold close to me for a long time

Jihane works as a Tobacco Cessation Specialist with Gulfcoast North Area Health Education Center and provides cessation services to the community in forms of tools and resources to help them quit tobacco.
Working at the DSO (SCCR) taught me a lot about professionalism and responsibilities not just to myself but to my community. In my time at the DSO I got the opportunity to meet and work with some truly amazing individuals, many of whom I consider mentors.I will always be grateful to have been a part of the DSO family.

Working at the DSO was instrumental in my development as a student affairs professional. Interacting with a diverse population of students and exceptional staff members deepened my passion for a career in students affairs and allowed me to help students become more successful at UF. As the Graduate Assistant for SCCR, I was able to help students learn and grow from their mistakes and provide resources to become more successful within the UF community.

On Thursday, April 18, 2013 the University of Florida recognized two Dean of Student Office staff members at the university-wide Superior Accomplishment Awards Ceremony in the Grand Ballroom.

New Student and Family Programs' Preview orientation program was recently named the recipient of NACADA's 2013 Outstanding Academic Advising Program Award! The National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), founded in 1979, promotes the quality of academic advising in institutions of higher education. NACADA is dedicated to the support and professional growth of academic advisors, administrators, and the advising profession. Through its publications and conferences, NACADA provides a forum for discussion, debate and the exchange of ideas regarding the role of advising in higher education. We are so proud of New Student and Family Program and their accomplishment.
The Board of Directors for the University of Florida Department of Recreational Sports (RecSports), in collaboration with UF Student Government, presented a proposal to the UF Parking and Transportation Committee for consideration of additional unrestricted parking hours adjacent to Southwest Recreation Center. The proposal is part of an ongoing effort to increase student engagement and accessibility and encourage healthy living among the UF student body. The Parking and Transportation Committee approved extended weekday hours, lifting parking restrictions on Bledsoe Drive (north west of Southwest Recreation Center) an hour earlier—now starting at 2:30 p.m.. The effort is effective immediately and will be evaluated through the end of Summer B. At that time, the committee and RecSports will reevaluate the measure and consider an extension through Fall 2013 and/or beyond. Note: The change is limited to the Bledsoe Drive parking lot. The Campus Diplomats serve as the official ambassadors to the Dean of Students Office. This year, over 200 applications applied to become a member. After a three-step interview selection process, the Dean of Students Office and Campus Diplomats are excited to welcome thirty-four (34) new members to help further their mission. The University of Florida’s Institute for Mobility, Activity and Participation has with funding from the Florida Department of Transportation developed the Florida Senior Safety Resource Center (FSSRC),a database containing over 800 transportation services. This up to date and user directed information for seniors, or persons with disabilities, addresses the need to find appropriate, acceptable and affordable alternative transportation options within their local communities. These services range from highly organized to very flexible and provide various levels of assistance, throughout all of Florida’s 67 counties. The University of Florida Police Department would like to warn the public about a frightening scam that has affected our community. There has been an ongoing identified scam in which person(s) unknown call an individual and tell him/her that they have a family member held hostage and if he/she sends money, the family member will be released unharmed. The University of Florida Police Department has received two reports of such incidents within the past month. This scam has been appearing for years and occurs across the globe.
So what can you do if you receive this call?
•Remain calm
•Do not provide any personal information
•Do not send money
•Call your relative
•Contact your local law enforcement agency
