Weeks of Welcome Mini-Grants
The University of Florida's Weeks of Welcome WOW! committee will be awarding a limited number of mini-grants to organizations and departments that wish to provide programming during the summer B or the fall semester. More detailed guidelines for using the mini-grant will be given to those who are awarded the grant.
The Weeks of Welcome (WOW) Vision
This year, we hope to encourage many different areas to offer WOW! events for new students including our transfer and graduate student population. Weeks of Welcome enhances the transition process for new students. Activities should be meaningful and purposeful with the goal being to continue the new student's orientation to the university community. Orientation is a process, not a program, and the focus of these activities would be the retention of new students. We particularly value collaborative events.
Goals of Weeks of Welcome (WOW) Activities
• To develop some campus wide events specific to first-year, transfer
and graduate students aimed at helping new students make the transition
from high school or other colleges to the University of Florida
• To provide new students with resources and campus information that
was not provided and/or retained at Preview or Transfer Orientation
• To help foster a sense of pride about being a Florida Gator
• To teach new students about the history and traditions of the University
of Florida
• To inform new students about their rights and responsibilities as
members of our community
Weeks of Welcome (WOW!) Mini-Grants are intended to:
• Promote the planning of new college, department and organizational
events which meet the goals of WOW! activities
• Encourage collaborative planning between colleges, departments,
and organizations
• Provide support to areas and/or events that are minimally
funded
• Increase the number of WOW! activities offered to students (including
transfer and graduate
students)
To apply for a mini-grant, please download and complete the application below. Preference will be given to proposals that reflect the goals of the WOW!, align with the intent of the mini-grant program, demonstrate a need for funding assistance and convey thorough and thoughtful planning.
Please submit your mini-grant application by Friday, May 30, 2008 at noon for Summer B events and Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at noon for Fall events. Thank you for your involvement in Weeks of Welcome!
