Text Box: City Codes Create Confusion
You live in the city of Gainesville and the city has its own laws that can be enforced on residents of the community. The easiest way to not violate these codes are to learn about them. Below is a website where you can search for different city codes and get information about what they do. We will also be highlighting certain codes each month that are of particular importance to off campus students.

Text Box: Safety Tip of the Month

The University of Florida Police Department has programs where students can engrave personal property with an identification number. Information about your property is recorded and stored at the police office in case it should be stolen.

Text Box: The Hope Beautification Award
Don Hope, and his wife Edwina, moved to their 4th Avenue home in the College Park neighborhood within a year of their marriage in 1951. Both were graduates of the University and built a home behind Edwina’s mother, in the shadow of Florida Field. They continued to live in this home and raise four children and Edwina remains in the home today. Don held many jobs at the City of Gainesville over the years and was a Financial Analyst for Gainesville Regional Utilities when he retired. He had a great fondness for flowers, shrubs and other plants and was a member of the city’s Camilla Society for many years. Don could also be seen carefully tending to his own yard as well as the yards of rental property in College Park owned by his son. Don passed away three years ago on October 11. The Hope Beautification Award was established in his honor by the University Park Neighborhood Association as a means to recognize neighbors in College Park who take significant steps to improve the attractiveness of their lawns. The Off Campus Life Great Gator Neighbor for January was the recipient of this award last semester.
