McNair Scholars Program
The Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program, commonly referred to as the McNair Scholars Program, is a federally funded program for undergraduate students to encourage first-generation/low-income, or those underrepresented in doctorate study, to pursue graduate study.
The McNair Scholars Program prepares talented undergraduate students for doctorate study by giving them the opportunity to engage in research, strengthen academic skills and develop the student/faculty mentor relationship critical to success at the doctoral level.
PROGRAM BENEFITS
- Design and conduct a research project with a knowledgeable faculty mentor
- Attend seminars and workshops on topics relevant to doctoral education
- Attend GRE Preparation sessions
- Present research findings at UF McNair Research Presentation Day during the spring semester and at other McNair Research conferences nationwide
- Participate in six-week summer research program during Summer B
- Publication of research in the UF McNair Journal
- Attend academic symposiums and professional conferences
- $2400.00 Research Stipend
- Attend cultural and educational activities
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY
A student is eligible to participate if the student meets the following requirements:
- Is a first-generation/low-income, or belongs to a group underrepresented in doctoral studies (i.e. African American, Alaskan Native/Native American, Mexican American/Hispanic/Puerto Rican/Latino, and students with disabilities)
- Is a student currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at the University of Florida (at the start of the Fall term, students must be classified as a junior or a senior with at least three semesters left before graduation).
- Is a citizen, national, or permanent resident of the United States
- Has a 2.9 cumulative GPA (juniors), or a 3.0 cumulative GPA (seniors)
