The Counseling Center provides counseling services to currently enrolled University of Florida undergraduate and graduate students. All of the Center's programs and services are based upon the proposition that a student's success in college is directly related to his or her general development as a human being. The Center offers brief counseling to help students develop the personal awareness and skills necessary to overcome problems and to grow in ways that will allow them to take advantage of the educational opportunities at the university.
Counseling Services Provided
The Counseling Center provides confidential, no cost counseling services to currently enrolled students. Individual, Couples, and Group counseling are available to assist students with personal, academic, and career concerns. Students coming to the Center are usually seeking more effective and rewarding lives by confronting personal concerns, issues about career choice, development of interpersonal skills, or questions regarding their lifestyle and values. The reasons why people seek counseling are varied; therefore, the Center seeks to identify and match each person with the best possible service.
Special Services
The Center offers counseling for a wide variety of concerns but also provides the following specialized services: multicultural counseling; math confidence counseling; women's counseling (including eating disorders, sexual assault/abuse/harassment); bereavement counseling; support for Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transsexual students; counseling for students with disabilities; alcohol and substance abuse counseling; and couples therapy. Students wishing to explore career choice and decision-making also use DISCOVER, a computer based vocational career guidance program, and ISIS, a program for navigating the University's computerized academic program offerings.
