The Career Resource Center, located on the first floor of the J. Wayne Reitz Union, offers career planning, internship and cooperative education guidance, and employment/school search services for UF students.
What type of career planning services do you offer?
Career Planning services include group and individual career counseling, career workshops, skills/aptitude/interest testing, and outreach programs that bring tailored presentations to campus organizations and classes. The Center’s 3,500-volume library and audio-visual section allows students to explore careers or research specific companies. Students can also register for a 1-credit career course, SLS 2301 Career Planning for freshmen and sophomores or SLS 2302 Job Search Strategies for juniors and seniors.
Are there opportunities for student to get practical job related experience?
Internship and Cooperative Education Programs are available to students in all majors and classifications. As encouraged by the Provost’s Office, the CRC can help students explore and secure pre-graduation work experience. The Center also encourages students to participate in Externships, informal employer shadowing experiences that allow students to “test” their major/career goals without a semester-long commitment while building a professional network.
Can you help me get a job?
Job search assistance is offered through a number of services; one-on-one career advising, on-campus interviews through Gator CareerLink, six unique career fairs each year, graduate school search support, career mentoring programs, interview preparation, credentials services, networking opportunities and more.
If I don’t know what I want to major in, can you help?
Selecting a major and identifying career options can be a challenging experience for many students. The CRC offers free individual and group career counseling for undergraduate and graduate students. Professional career counselors and advanced counseling graduates help students explore skills, interests, and abilities and how they relate to career decision making issues like, choosing a major, changing a major, exploring career related options and exploring graduate school. What about employment opportunities?
The Center offers a variety of programs and services to assist all majors and classifications with employment opportunities.
Do you provide career advising?
Trained assistants (Career Ambassadors) and full-time staff are available to assist students explore major and career options, and develop employment search strategies. Advising is available in the library Monday - Friday.
Do you offer classes on career planning?
SLS 2301 Career Planning for freshmen and sophomores and SLS 2302 Job Search Strategies for juniors and seniors are one-credit elective courses that explore skills, interests, and teach how to plan a job search.
What is an internship? Why would I participate?
Internships are Career-related work experiences that typically last one semester can help “test” your career choice while gaining valuable skills. The CRC has many resources to help you find an internship to meet your goals.
What is a cooperative work experience program (co-op)? Why would I participate?
Co-op’s blend practical work experience with your academic pursuits by alternating work and study (and getting paid). You can graduate with a degree and multiple semesters of career-related experience. Visit the online database to review current listings.
What is an externship?
Consider spending a few hours or days shadowing a professional in a career that interests you. Externships create a networking contact for the future and help you “test” and clarify career goals.
What are career fairs? When are they held?
The Center hosts six unique career fairs each year with Career Showcase being offered each Fall and Spring. A list of fairs and participating organizations is available at www.crc.ufl.edu/careerfairs
What are career workshops?
Free 50-minute sessions coincide with class schedules to present topics and processes that prepare students for success after graduation. The most popular CRC workshop are viewable on the website at www.crc.ufl.edu/domain/services/video/index.php.
What is the credential program?
This document management service simplifies the job or graduate/professional school applications process. Copies of student’s transcript, resume, and letters of recommendations can be forwarded in an official package to locations specified.
