UF Online Orientation

Congratulations on being admitted to the University of Florida!

We are excited for you to be a part of the Gator Nation and want to make sure that you have all the information necessary to begin your journey.  We have prepared a comprehensive online orientation, called Links, to help acquaint you with UF’s policies, procedures and programs

Within Links you will have the opportunity to learn about:

• UF’s online interfaces such as ISIS (student records/registration), Office365 (e-mail), Canvas and Sakai (e-learning)
• Academic expectations and support services
• Other University student resources and services available through UF Online
• And the next steps you need to complete post orientation, such as securing your Gator1 Card (university ID) and arranging your first semester academic advising appointment

Follow the steps below to begin your Links Orientation.

Accessing Your Links Orientation

  1. Set-up your GatorLink account: The video at the bottom of this page will guide you through how to set-up your GatorLink account.  You'll use your GatorLink username and password to register for your Links Orientation, and access Canvas, as well as other online UF resources, such as your e-mail and student records.
  2. Register for Links and pay the $35 orientation service charge here.
  3. Once you have registered and paid for orientation, you will be given access to Canvas. Canvas is the primary e-learning platform for UF Online. In can take up to 15 minutes for you to be given access to Canvas from the time you register and pay for Links.
  4. You can access Canvas and Links by either going directly to ufl.instructure.com or by going to lss.at.ufl.edu and selecting the Canvas button.  At either site, you will have to log in using your GatorLink username and password.
  5. Once you’ve reviewed all of the information within Links, you will have to take the ‘Orientation Quiz’ which you will find underneath the ‘Quizzes’ section on the left-side of Links. You must earn a score of 80% on the quiz before you are finished with orientation.
  6. In addition to completing the 'Orientation Quiz' you must also complete the steps to receive your Gator 1 (ID) Card in order to have your UFO-Links Orientation hold lifted.  The steps to receive your Gator 1 Card are outlined within the last module in Links, or you can begin the application process by going to the ID Card Services website.  If you are a UF employee or former students and have a Gator 1 Card that was issued after May 13, 2004, then you do not need to complete this step.

UFO-Links Orientation and UFO-Advising Holds

You will notice both a UFO-Links Orientation and UFO-Advising hold on your records.  These holds will prevent you from registering for your first semester classes.  To have your UFO-Links Orientation hold lifted, you must complete the steps outlined aboved, including earning an 80% or better on your Orientation Quiz and completing the steps to receive your Gator 1 Card.  Once you have had your Links Orientation hold lifted, you will have an advising appointment with your College, and they will lift your UFO-Advising hold.  You cannot complete your advising appointment until you have had your Links hold lifted.

Technology Advice for Links

If you are using a PC, it is recommended that you use Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome ober other internet browsers, such as Internet Explorer.  Mac users should use Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Safari rather than Internet Explorer.  Firefox and Google Chrome can be downloaded for free.
